Our history
Maintaining its traditional practices, the estate deploys its know-how to offer you wines with rich bouquets, beautiful color and great ageing potential.
1940
William Darnajou’s father, Tonnellier, used the land for mixed farming. William and Léontine Darnajou took over the estate in the 1960s, ensuring continuity, with the estate divided between vineyards, vegetables and livestock.
1960
Henri Darnajou, William’s son, developed the winegrowing side of the business. The wine was mainly sold in bulk to wholesalers, but very quickly Henri Darnajou developed bottle sales, winning the loyalty of customers all over France.
1994
When his father died, Jean Darnajou, 4th generation, took over the family business at the age of 20, which he managed with the help of his mother Colette Darnajou. He carried on the family tradition, gradually modernizing techniques (thermoregulation, pneumatic press, etc.).
2004
Jean joined forces with his brother-in-law, Patrick Merle, to create the SCEA du Château des Moines, enabling the estate to expand commercially.
2019
Since 2019, Château des Moines has officially obtained “High Environmental Value” level 3 certification for its products.
2024
The estate is expanding this year with the acquisition of 5 hectares of vines in the Bordeaux appellation, to further develop our wine production.
